Western Australian Motoretta Giro 2018
This year the date of the Giro conflicted with another big date in the WA scootering calendar, which was the Rockingham Rally, so there was concern that numbers would be down. However in the end we had a great turn out of eleven riders on a wonderful crisp Sunday morning. The view from Gooseberry Hill was magnificent and Tony Wong captured it all beautifully on his video of the morning. Harry turned up to watch as well as complain about the free coffee on offer.

Of the eleven riders we had six Lambrettas and five Vespas, and I think five riders doing the course for the first time. The course was the same as the previous two years, as it is a favourite with the riders despite being too challenging for us to ever win outright.
In the end it was Simon in 3rd place with a respectable 11sec. variation. Andy Marsh (always the bridesmaid never the bride) in 2nd place with a 9sec. variation, and RMC Eddie ‘Bootneck’ Lindsell in 1st place with a 7sec. variation. A Special Mention in Despatches to Paul Campbell who came 4th on 12sec. on his first crack at the event.
The Motoretta Giro continues to be an eagerly anticipated event on the WA calendar. Cheers to all the participants that make it work.
